International Women’s Day was first recognized in 1909, with the first annual celebration happening in 1911. It was initially created when women were rallying for the right to vote, hold public office, and gain employment rights equal to men. Since then, it has evolved into a world holiday that highlights the achievements of women throughout history and today, while also bringing attention to current issues. Citron Hygiene supports women in the workplace with products and services that allow them to easily take care of their personal hygiene needs. We are also a part of the fight towards ending women’s cancers through our partnership with the American and Canadian Cancer Societies.
We first introduced feminine hygiene disposal services in 1955, back when 25-34% of women 16 years of age and older were in the workforce in the United States and Canada. Now, women make up 47% of Canadian workforce and 57% of the U.S. workforce. They have natural needs that must be addressed wherever they are, which makes services like the Hygeia necessities in every restroom. This unit provides hands-free disposal for napkins and tampons, and is wall-mounted, allowing it to fit in most spaces. Providing proper disposal allows facilities to support their female employees and customers, and with the charity wrap, allows them to support ending women’s cancers as well.
Since 2013, we have been supporting this cause with our corporate giving campaign. Our Hygeia comes with the option of wraps for some additional style. The charity wrap selection bears a pink ribbon and the statement “This facility supports the fight to end women’s cancers.” Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of each charity wrap are directed towards women’s cancers, and contribute to anything from basic laboratory research to survivorship programs for women who have battled cancer. Through this campaign, we have been able to donate several thousands of dollars to the American and Canadian Cancer Societies. All of our clients who are a part of this giving know the difference they are making, as each one receives a thank you letter that lets them know how much of a contribution they have made.
We hope that as our company continues to grow, that we are able to involve more of our customers in these pursuits and help even more women. Ending women’s cancers is a significant cause that will take time to achieve; however, maintaining equality in the workplace and providing access to hygiene needs is something that business owners and managers can do for women today. If your facility could use an upgrade to better accommodate women, reach out to Citron Hygiene today and learn about how we can help.
